This is in honor of the celebration tonight on VH1 for Def Jam/Island Records. Whether you want to admit it or not there really wouldn't be no music without Def Jam. All these independent labels owe it all to Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin. Not only did they open the the door for hip hop and music in general, they knocked the door off the hinges. You don't believe me, name your top ten rap songs, club bangers, or even artist I guarantee there is at least five Def Jam/Island affiliates on your list. They changed the game for R&B, Hip Hop, and even Rock n Roll. They brought us music to a generation of kids now grown ups that was looking for an identity. They called it a fad but we showed them we changed fashion, language, and even changed the world. (How you think Obama got elected?) Def Jam may not got him elected but they layed the foundation that changed the world. So thank you Russell and Rick for everything you have done. Thanks for Krush Groove, Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, Phat Farm, Jay-Z, and a whole lifetime of memories. Not to mention what music has to come. So to all the Gucci Mane's, Master P's, Lil Wayne's, and all the others who started their own labels need to bow down and praise Def Jam Recordings.
