Who the fuck is you?
Hidey-Ho world it's me Molo!
I been struggling with this post for some time now. I am a huge Jay-Z fan, since 1996 I been rocking with everything Jigga. I been a fan through the ups (Roc-a-fella dynasty) and the downs (Losing to Nas in a battle) to the ups all over again (President Carter to RocNation). But this latest development I can't deal with. The development I am talking about is the riff between President Carter and the once General of The Roc, Beanie Sigel. According to Beans it's all about respect and this doesn't mean he doesn't love Jay anymore. He says:
"This is me taking my brother into the yard for five minutes, I got a knot in my chest I need loosing up."-Beanie Sigel
But through the little back and forth something interesting was said by 50 it was implied Jay-Z has lost street cred cause of his success.
Who the fuck is you?
The only thing in life that is certain is Death, Taxes, and Change! You have to evolve or you will stand still. For 50 to say Jay has change he really needs to look in the mirror. Now not all change is good. You can digress rather than progress. So since I won't comment on the Jay/Beans beef cause that's like watching your uncles fight in the yard, I chose to talk about change in careers. The artist I chose for this are ones who had a rather noticeable change one way or the other.
Jay-z is the best rapper to touch a mic period. From day one he set the standard on how to last long in the industry. In his 14 year journey through hip hop he opened the eyes of many people who normally would take a second glance at the hood. But just like everyone he grew up. Sue him if you don't like it. He is a multi-millionaire, what would he look like honestly talking about bricks and shooting people? He is married so how could he talk about sexing women and calling them hoes? Has his lyrical skill fell off? No! Has he lost a step? 11 #1 albums and still going. He is still a trend setter, he just grew up. He took out the gold teeth for gold bottles and left the Lexus for the Maybach.
"I'm not a businessman I'm a BUSINESS man!" -Jay-Z
Steadily evolving
2.Curtis Jackson, Jr.(50 cent)
It's funny that he be the one saying anything about change. When he made one of the biggest flips in hip hop. He went from the hungry kid from South side Jamaica Queens to the kid in a Connecticut mansion with more rooms then a project. Now the question is did he fall off? A big loud echoing YES! He hasn't been the same since his early success from mix tapes and his debut Album "Get rich or die trying." It seems to me he is more worried about beefing and less worried about writing. Now if Fifty wants a talk show he is going in the right direction but anything else a downward spiral which is evident in his first week sales being the lowest they have ever been.
Change 4 the bad.
3. Marshall Bruce Mathers, III
Eminem is undeniably the most consistent rapper walking. He has been using his wit and vocabulary to bring hot lyrics for that ass. From his first album "Infinite" to "Relapse" he has been the same and one of the nicest. In this case being the same has hindered him. It was cool at first to bring us into your world of bad childhood and drug overdoses and fighting with Kim but after a while it got redundant. He too changed, he went away from the mean vocab to I hate my mom. If he could blend the battle rapper with the Emcee that would be a sight!
Change is bad
4. Dwayne Carter(Lil Wayne)
I know what y'all thinking I am going to go HAM on him nope...OK maybe a little lol.
The one thing Wayne has over all these people he actually grew up in front of the world. So you can see the evolution take place. You have to admit in Hotboy days Wayne was nice,in early Carter days he evolved into that dude everyone was going to fear in the game. Then something happened, he dumbed down to get accepted. It wasn't enough to be called the next in line he had to sell his soul for the money. rhymes got slower vocab got less and less multi-syllabic. it was just a mess. Now that he has a crew of writers(sorry to burst your bubbles) he never has to try a again. It's an insult to my intelligence and yours too. He saying that he can put anything out and we will accept it.
Nigga please!
5. Trevor Smith(Busta Rhymes)
Bussa Bus has had the most change of all. He changed his flow, hair style, and body frame. If you don't know Busta use to be in a crew call Leaders of the New School, derived of him, Charlie Brown, and Dinco. Even back then he had a fast delivery and a carefree personality. But with lagging sales and the ever changing game that is music. The old guard of that we don't give a F*** era is losing the battle no one wants to hear the rah rah no more. So with that said he he doesn't change he will suffer the same fate as Rakim, KRS-One, MOP, and countless others he will be on the dinosaur tour. I tell you right now Special Ed is one of my favorite rappers and he still got some heat with him. But tell me this where is he? EXACTLY!!
Change is desperately needed!!!!
So you seen some for change, some good, some bad, but change is going to happen. Think about this before you're bashing people about, they don't sound the same as they did 15 years ago.
What were you doing 15 years ago? Are you doing the same thing now as you were then? Nine times out ten you are not. So why should anyone else be?
I'm just saying!
